Studying at Home

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”

-Sylvia Plath

My Story

Growing up in Bergen County, New Jersey, I always wanted to have a glamourous writing career in Manhattan. I followed that goal and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and English at New York University and then spent several years in magazine publishing with Hearst Magazines, Conde Nast and Us Weekly. I discovered the Devil did wear Prada, traded my Blackberry for an iPhone, and decided that a hot dog from Grey's Papaya was more satisfying than a 5 course meal at Nobu. I loved every minute of it! After a while though, I realized that I was ready for a career pivot. I packed up my closet sized room in lower Manhattan and made the move to a slightly bigger closet in Philadelphia to earn a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Management at the University of Pennsylvania.

I went on to build a rewarding career in admissions and career advising with Fordham University, Drexel University and then with University of Pennsylvania, The Wharton School. I love working with hopeful applicants, reading their stories and traveling all over the world to see how they live. I've attended admissions fairs and workshops throughout the US and abroad, met students from all backgrounds and had the privilege of networking with admissions deans and directors from some of the best schools in the world.

Remember, who you are at 18 may not be who you become later on...and that is how you'll go from a short story to a novel (and maybe a publicity tour and movie deal!).

When I'm not editing or reading applications, I read around two books per week (the classics are great, but contemporary fiction and memoirs are what I reach for most!) I also enjoy indulging in true crime documentaries, exploring ethnic cuisine and working off the calories with HIIT workouts. You can often find me spending time with my husband, two children and two dogs in Cherry Hill, NJ.
